Ao Phai Beach: White Sandy Koh Samet Bay with Good Nightlife

ao phai beach

Small, white sandy Ao Phai [by Samed Pavilion]

How appealing are the white sands and crystal clear waters of Ao Phai beach on Koh Samet..?

Very appealing!

It’s just a 20 minute stroll to Ao Phai from the arrival port at the top of the island, making it a popular choice for those who want to be near the busy parts of the island but far enough away from Sai Kaew to feel like they’ve escaped it to some extent. It’s a small beach at just 150m long but it is very picturesque, hemmed in by rocks that create an idyllic setting.

Don’t expect to have the beach all to yourself though as it’s popular with backpackers and travellers as well as Thai students and families who seek their perfect getaway during weekends and holidays.

Ao Phai Beach by day and night..

The small crescent of gorgeous white sand here is spacious enough to accommodate a decent amount of people during the day but as it’s not too long there are only a few places to stay. Swimming in the glassy clear waters is popular and there is a mini-market as well as a couple of beachfront restaurants and bars to keep thirsts quenched and bellies full while you’re here. Divers will be able to get their fix as UDI Dive Shop is here, offering the usual array of open water to advanced courses as well as day trips and other outings for those who are already certified.

Evenings can be lively on Ao Phai as the Silver Sand bar and disco (nearby the resort of the same name) has a habit of staying open long after many of the other bars on the island have closed down for the night. It’s a popular place to come for those who like to party a little later than everyone else so bear this is mind if you’re thinking of staying here.. if you want more peace then stay further down the beach if you can.

Ao Phai bungalows

Silver Sand Hotel ==> Bookings <==
These are the bungalows and hotel rooms that are located by the late night bar and disco, so be aware that if you’re looking for more peace and quiet this probably isn’t the best place for you to stay. If you don’t mind the noise or are looking for more of a party vibe then Silver Sand should be just what you’re looking for. It’s a great location on the beach and the rooms have varied facilities to make your stay a pleasant one.

ao phai koh sametSamed Pavilion Resort ==> Bookings <==
Bungalows of several different standards are on offer at Samed Pavilion and guests have access to a small swimming pool on the complex. The usual facilities exist here, such as laundry, safety deposit boxes, transfers and concierge. Judging by the guest reviews it’s not the most spacious of resorts but check these out for yourself as well as more pictures of the rooms and facilities.

As an overall guide, Ao Phai beach will suit you if you like smaller, picturesque white sandy bays as well as being close to the nightlife on Koh Samet.
